Dr. Janette Gaw Named by Gulf Shore Business Magazine as one of the 40 under 40

Gulfshore Magazine September 2010 Article Copy: Janette Gaw of The Colorectal Institute doesn’t see why it’s a big deal to provide free colon cancer treatment to people who can’t afford it. In fact, assuming that she wouldn’t infuriates her. “If I wanted money, I should’ve listened to my mother and gone into business,” says Gaw, a colorectal surgeon. Instead, the Manila, Philippines, native and Yale School of Medicine alumna joined the Colorectal Institute in Fort Myers five years ago, treating patients of all income levels.

And she’s on a mission to make more people aware of the risks of colon cancer. Gaw completed five marathons between December and May, so it seemed natural for her to organize Get Your Rear in Gear, a 5k race planned for March 2011 to help provide education about colon cancer, the No. 2 cancer killer in the United States. “Hopefully people know there’s someone out there for them,” Gaw says
